Flanges A flange is a type of mechanical joint that connects two parts together in order to form a secure seal. The flange is the projecting edge of one material which is fixed onto or around the end of another material. It is usually used where a smooth connection is needed between two pipes, valves, or any other device to create a waterproof seal. Flanges are typically used to join pipes together in plumbing and piping installations, but can also be used for a variety of other mechanical and structural purposes. Flanges are commonly made from metals such as steel and brass, but other materials such as plastic and fiberglass can also be used. Types of Flanges Flanges come in a variety of types and designs.
