What is a Grooved Tee? A grooved tee is a plumbing fitting used to join two or more pipes of different sizes. It’s made up of a grooved body, header, and fittings. In most cases, the grooved tee fits into a standard tee opening of a schedule 40 or schedule 80 pipe and is connected to other pipes using grooved-end couplings. It’s used in a variety of applications, from underground water supply to wastewater drainage. Construction and Design A grooved tee is traditionally constructed from steel, which makes it relatively strong and durable. But other materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum and plastic, are available. The body of the grooved tee is designed with grooves that are used to fit pipe sections together.
