What is a Cast Iron Ball Valve? A Cast Iron Ball Valve is a valve which uses a rotating ball to control the flow of liquids or gases. The ball usually has a circular port, or an opening, that is lined with a seat seal which is forced down against the port, thus creating a tight seal. When the valve is open, liquid or gas flows freely through the port. When the handle is turned, the ball rotates in a quarter-turn arc and is forced against the port walls to form a seal. This effectively prevents liquids or gases from passing through. Cast iron ball valves are found in many industries, including oil and gas production, food processing, chemical manufacturing, and wastewater treatment.
